Use OTP to reduce Fraudulent behaviour

How to use OTP to reduce Fraudulent behaviour

Understanding OTP verification:

Here's a breakdown of how OTP verification works for guest and repeat users depending on your Mandatory OTP Login setting coupled with  COD OTP settings. You'll get a better understanding of how to use the OTP verification at various stages to get reduced Fraud orders & improved customer flow.

Scenario 1: Mandatory OTP Login (ON) + COD OTP (ON)

Guest Users:

  1. Login Verification: Guest users will mandatorily verify their mobile number with an OTP upon logging in.
  2. COD Order Verification (if details change): If users change their contact information during address entry/update , an additional OTP verification will be required to confirm only the COD order. This is a rare scenario:
    1. When Customer is trying to place an order for somebody else.
    2. If someone is trying to place a fraud order.
  1. No additional verification (if details remain unchanged): If they don't modify their contact details at checkout, no further verification is needed.

Repeat Users:

  1. Login Verification: Similar to guest users, repeat users will mandatorily verify their mobile number with an OTP at login.
  2. COD Order Verification (if details change): If repeat users edit their contact details while checking out, another OTP verification will be required for only the COD order.
  3. No additional verification (if details remain unchanged): If their contact information remains unchanged, only the login verification applies.

Scenario 2: Mandatory OTP Login (OFF) + COD OTP (ON)

Guest Users:

  1. No Login Verification: There's no mandatory OTP verification required by guest users  at login in this scenario.
  2. COD Order Verification (to minimise fake orders): However, to minimise the risk of fraudulent orders, OTP verification will be required for the COD order

Repeat Users:

  1. Login Verification: Repeat users will mandatorily verify their mobile number with an OTP upon logging in.
  2. COD Order Verification (if details change): If users edit their contact details at address change/update, another OTP verification will be required for the COD order.

No additional verification (if details remain unchanged): If their contact information remains unchanged, only the login verification applies.
